2007 Walk Against Warming in Sydney
Since the global financial crisis, almost all mention of climate change has disappeared from the media. However, the reality of climate change has not disappeared. It is still the greatest threat to life on Earth, with far greater and more long-reaching impacts than the financial crisis. At this time, when most of the world is focused on financial survival, governments around the world will be deciding how they will respond to the climate crisis at crucial international climate talks in Poland. In Australia, the Federal Cabinet is deciding on Australia's emissions target for 2020, and the detail of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme to commence in 2010. With opinion polls showing that concern about global warming has slipped from No 1 priority to No 6 for Australian citizens, it has never been more important for the community's voice to be heard demanding strong, urgent action from our government and justice for our island neighbours affected by global warming.
